Pulau Besar is 30 minutes away from the Mersing town by boat. The island’s highest point rises 845 feet (258m) above the sea level which made it one of the largest islands off the coast Mersing.
There is only 1 boat transfer daily provided by the hotel from Mersing to Pulau Besar and return from the island to Mersing Jetty. The time from Mersing to Pulau Besar is around 12.30pm while the return boat schedule is around 10.30am.
So make sure that you be there early. If you have missed the boat, there are no other schedule of boats available for you.
If you are really late, you might need to pay extra for a private boat to transfer you to the island. The price for an adult return ticket is about RM95 per person and the price for a child return ticket is about RM75 per person (below 12 years old).

What’s Special About Pulau Besar Mersing Johor
There is a little story behind the history of Pulau Besar. There is a local myth about the mermaids at Pulau Besar that was transformed by a fisherman couple. At one time, many local folks believed in the legend.
The legend begins with a pregnant fisherman’s wife. She was craving for a kind of seaweed which can be found plentiful in the Mersing waters. The wife transformed into a mermaid after eating the seaweed. The fisherman was very upset and heartbroken and decided to take the same seaweed and he has also transformed into a mermaid.
From then, you can see many couples spotted eating seaweed together around the island.
